Last but not Least... ETL 402

I can't believe it! I managed to get my Reflective E-Portfolio handed in 4 months early so I could get on the plane to England (conference/children's book festival and 9 days holiday) without worrying about it needing to be finished when I returned.

Now that I am back from England - meeting Michael Morpurgo was a highlight - ETL 402 Literature Across The Curriculum has just begun.

I have been waiting for 4 years to do this subject. We were (sadly) only allowed one elective - and this was what I chose, obviously because I love literature. However, when I looked at the first assignment the choice I wanted to research was realistic fiction but I couldn't find any books in our Professional Library at school. Instead I have chosen Graphic Novels, which is probably a good choice as I don't know much about them. All I know is:

  • boys like them
  • children who struggle to read like them
  • parents don't see them as a good reading option

This is an opportunity for me to really learn a lot about a format that needs development in my library. Because I don't know anything about Graphic Novels this collection has been neglected. This is my opportunity to use that learning to develop the collection - and not only develop it but also to promote that collection!

Looking forward to all my research!
